Broadway will ‘rise’ once more for Elaine Stritch. Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone and more will take part in a tribute to the late stage icon as part of Everybody, Rise! A Celebration of Elaine Stritch. The event will take place on November 17 at the Great White Way's Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Additional participants will include Hal Prince, Michael Feinstein, Betty Buckley, Christine Ebersole and Rob Bowman, who served as Stritch’s longtime musical director. The tribute’s producing committee includes Chiemi Karasawa, director of the recent documentary Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me and friend and A Little Night Music co-star Hunter Ryan Herdlicka. Proceeds from the tribute will go to the Elaine Stritch Scholarship Fund at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
Stritch died at the age of 89 on July 17 in her Birmingham, Michigan home. The Tony and three-time Emmy-winning actress made her Broadway debut in Loco in 1946 and went on to star in several Great White Way productions, including Tony-nominated turns in Bus Stop, Sail Away, Company and A Delicate Balance. Her additional Broadway credits included A Little Night Music, Love Letters, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Call Me Madam and Pal Joey.
