Two new shows are set to play Lincoln Center Theater. Shows for Days, a new play by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane, will kick off on June 4, 2015 and open on June 29 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Preludes, a new musical from Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 creator Dave Malloy, will begin on May 23, 2015 at the Claire Tow Theater and run through July 19. Opening night is set for June 15.
Shows For Days, inspired by Beane’s own life in theater, follows 14-year-old Car, who becomes involved in community theater in Reading, Pennsylvania at the Prometheus Theatre. The theater is led by a woman who dedicates her life to directing, designing and starring in the group’s shows. Casting and the design team will be announced later. Tony winner Jerry Zaks will direct.
Directed by Rachel Chavkin, Preludes explores the hyponotized mind of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov. Following an unsuccessful first symphony and during a spell of writer’s block, he begins to see a therapeutic hypnotist with hopes of overcoming depression and returning to composing. The production will include sets by Mimi Lien, costumes by Paloma Young, lights by Bradley King and sound design by Matt Hubbs. Casting for the LCT3 production will be announced at a later date.
