Fondest greetings to a Great White Way vet! Linda Balgord, who plays Madame Giry in the North American tour of The Phantom of the Opera, is returning to Broadway. She will begin performances as Giry in the New York production on December 15, along with the previously announced Julia Udine as Christine. Balgord succeeds Ellen Harvey, who will give her final performance on December 13. Norm Lewis has also once again extended his stay as the musical’s title character and will now play through February 7, 2015.
Balgord’s Broadway credits include Cats, The Pirate Queen, Gypsy, La Cage aux Folles and Passion. She starred as Norma Desmond in the first national tour of Sunset Boulevard and as Rose Vibert in the U.S. and Canadian tour of Aspects of Love.
The current cast of the longest-running show on the Great White Way also includes Mary Michael Patterson as Christine, Jeremy Hays as Raoul, Laird Mackintosh as Monsieur André, Tim Jerome as Monsieur Firmin, Michele McConnell as Carlotta, Christian Šebek as Piangi, Kara Klein as Meg Giry and Kaley Ann Voorhees as the Christine alternate.
