Sting’s The Last Ship has officially docked on the Great White Way. But now that the tuner has celebrated its opening night, we have a whole host of one-name music stars on our mind. Surely, there are other single-moniker rockers out there who could lend their talents to Broadway. We asked you which musician (with one name) should write a musical for the Great White Way. The votes are in, and here’s who you had to say!
1. Adele—21%
Adele has gone on record to say musical theatre is “not really my kind of thing,” but don’t count out this superstar just yet. From her Grammy-winning 21 to the Oscar-winning “Skyfall,” Adele’s music is certainly not short on theatrics; we’d love to see her pen something specifically for the stage. And let’s face it: Broadway performers just sound so damn good while singing her hits! Quick, someone call up Megan Hilty!
2. Beyoncé—18%
Listening to Beyoncé’s music is not unlike listening to a Broadway musical. You have emotional ballads. You have fierce key changes in rapid succession. You have elaborate Fosse-esque choreography. And as it turns out, our Broadway faves nail it on Beyoncé, too. OK, they can sing anything. Wait, someone call up Megan Hilty...again!
3. Cher—14%
She has an Oscar, an Emmy and a Grammy. It’s about time she goes for the T in her EGOT. Cher has announced plans to write and star in an autobiographical musical. Any updates, Cher? What if you just brought your one-woman West Side Story to Broadway in the meantime?
