Duck Dynasty Musical to Bow in Vegas
There is going to be a Duck Dynasty musical. Yes, you read that right, a stage adaptation of the A&E series revolving around the controversial Robertson family is actually happening. The New York Times reports that the 90-minute The Duck Commander Family Musical, directed by Jeff Calhoun, will open in February 2015 at Las Vegas’ Rio hotel and casino. (Apparently The Chippendales currently reside there.) Steven Morris, Robert Morris, Joe Shane and Asa Somers are behind a score and book that features duck hunting, blues, country and show tunes. The probable opening number is "Faith, Food, and Family." We promise you. We're not making any of this up.
Netflix Orders Screen Adaptation of The Audience
God save the Queen! Netflix has ordered The Crown, a 10-episode series inspired by Peter Morgan’s The Audience. According to The Wrap, the first season will follow the first decade of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, when Winston Churchill was among her Prime Ministers, and is expected to debut in 2016. Too far away? Under the direction of Stephen Daldry, Oscar winner Helen Mirren will be reprising her role as the Queen in The Audience on Broadway from February 17, 2015.
Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall to be Renamed
Lincoln Center is set to rename Avery Fisher Hall, which was named after electronics tycoon Avery Fisher in 1973 when he donated $10.5 million toward updating the 1962 building. The New York Times reports that the Fisher family have agreed to give up the name so another large donor can receive the honor. Home to the New York Philharmonic, the venue is currently fundraising for a $500 million renovation.
