It’s now been confirmed that Tony winner Laura Benanti will join Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Nathan Lane, Lena Hall and more to honor Elaine Stritch on November 17. Everybody, Rise! A Celebration of Elaine Stritch will be held at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Your Side Show Opening Night Invite
Wish you were going to the Side Show revival’s glam opening night on November 17? Well now you can! Sort of. The Act 1 finale will be broadcast live at 7.45PM in Times Square by Clear Channel Spectacolor. Head to Duffy Square's red steps at 47th Street to view Erin Davie and Emily Padgett’s rendition of “Who Will Love Me as I Am?"
The Shuberts Will Buy New World Stages
We previously reported that The Shubert Organization, which owns 17 of the 40 Great White Way theaters, was looking to buy New World Stages. According to The New York Times, the Broadway bigwigs will complete the deal on November 17. Why are “The Shuberts,” as they are known in the biz, doing the deal? Partly for the opportunity to move waning Great White Way shows to a smaller, more cost effective, venue.
Tony Winners Set for the Oscars
A trio of Tony winners has been tapped by mega-producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to help create create the 87th Academy Awards, hosted by the previously reported Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris. Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie) will choreograph, with production design by Derek McLane (33 Variations) and musical direction by Stephen Oremus (Kinky Boots, The Book of Mormon). The 2015 Oscars, featuring the work of some of Broadway’s best, will air on February 22!
