Kristin Chenoweth is channeling a whole host of iconic roles on her new album, Coming Home. Sure, singing “Bring Him Home” on a CD is not quite the same as manning the barricades on stage, but really, what can’t the pint-sized soprano do? Keeping the Tony winner’s impeccable comedic timing, signature Cheno-notes and more in mind, we wanted to know: what role that Kristin Chenoweth takes on in Coming Home would you like to see her play on stage (after her star turn in the upcoming On the Twentieth Century, of course)? The votes are in, and here’s what you had to say!
1.Christine Daae, The Phantom of the Opera—28%
Chenoweth delivers an emotional performance of “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” on her new album. Sorry, Glinda. That floating bubble has nothing on a boat/lifetime supply of fog. Come to think of it, Kristin would also make an adorable Meg Giry and a hysterical Carlotta. We’re sure her Phantom wouldn’t be too bad, either. Can we just have her do a one-woman show?
2. Eliza Doolittle, My Fair Lady—27%
Chenoweth kicks off her live set with a rendition of “I Could Have Danced All Night,” complete with an option up to a high C. How great would it be to see her go from flower peddler to soaring soprano on Broadway? Psst, KC, just don’t tell Laura Benanti. She’ll fight you for it. Maybe you two should have a sing-off?
3. Sally Bowles, Cabaret—17%
Chenoweth was Emmy-nominated (twice!) for her performance on Glee, during which she went head to head with Lea Michele on the classic power ballad “Maybe This Time.” Now, she goes solo on the number, ending with (surprise!) a high B. Sure, those high notes don’t exactly scream Sally, but we’re sure Kristin would still make a perfectly marvelous Cabaret leading lady.
