James Corden is on the brink of real fame in America, with his stint as the host of CBS’ The Late Late Show scheduled to start on March 9, 2015. Sure, that’s fine and all, but what the Brit told Broadway.com he really wants is to return to Broadway, where he earned a Tony Award in 2012 for the comedy One Man, Two Guvnors.
"I’m gonna do this TV show," he said. "It’s gonna be a disaster. I’ll do that show and then I’ll stop doing that show and then all I really want to do is Broadway musicals and plays. I love the whole thing: Bar Centrale, Orso’s, hanging out, Broadway Barks, Broadway Bares… I just love it!"
Turns out Corden already has a list of dream roles, including Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which he was flirting with playing on Broadway this season before landing the TV gig. "I want to do The Producers, I want to do Forum. I want to…Hedwig, man. I lost my shit watching Hedwig."
Corden, who stars as the Baker in the upcoming Into the Woods film, earned a Tony for his portrayal of Francis Henshall in One Man, Two Guvnors after originating the role in London. He also appeared in The History Boys on Broadway and in the West End. In addition to Into the Woods, Corden’s screen credits include One Chance, in which he played Britain’s Got Talent sensation Paul Potts, Begin Again, The Three Musketeers, Gulliver’s Travels, The Gruffalo, Gavin & Stacey and Horne & Corden.
See you at Bar Centrale soon, Mr. Corden!
