Broadway alum Ron Cephas Jones and Michael Rispoli have been tapped for Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Between Riverside and Crazy off-Broadway. Directed by Austin Pendleton, tickets are now available to see the Second Stage production, which will begin previews on January 16, 2015 at the Tony Kiser Theatre. Opening night is scheduled for February 11.
Between Riverside and Crazy premiered at off-Broadway’s Atlantic Theater Company this summer. Jones (Of Mice and Men) will play Junior and Rispoli will reprise his role as Lieutenant Caro in the new mounting. As previously reported, five other members of the Atlantic Theater production are set to return for the Second Stage incarnation: Tony nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson, Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colón and Liza Colón-Zayas. Additional casting will be announced later.
The play tells the story of Walter “Pops” Washington (Henderson), an ex-cop and recent widower, who, with his recently paroled son Junior (Jones), struggle to hold on to one of the last rent-stabilized apartments on Riverside Drive. The Old Days seem to be dead and gone for the two as old wounds are opened, sketchy new houseguests turn up and a final ultimatum is delivered.
