Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. And don’t forget, if you can’t decide on a show, there’s always a Broadway.com gift card! Check out our top picks below.
IT’S ONLY A PLAY
Every bit as good as stepping into a real opening night party, It’s Only a Play has everything: insider jokes, wacky producers, actors wandering around with police tracking anklets, the whole shebang. Your in-the-know friend will relish the chance to see Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Megan Mullally and more theater legends at work in this comedy written especially for theater fans. CABARET
If your pal is a theater aficionado, he’s probably been singing Cabaret and high-kicking with Liza since he was a toddler. But even if he knows every line of this classic musical, it’s time to return to the Kit Kat Klub to see Emma Stone make her Broadway debut as “simply marvelous” nightclub singer Sally Bowles. Plus, you can never see Tony winner Alan Cumming as the Emcee too many times. Click for tickets!
YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU
There are few things more exciting than seeing James Earl Jones onstage (and hearing his booming voice in person), but your know-it-all friend will be equally psyched to see the rest of the star-stacked cast: Kristine Nielsen, Rose Byrne, Annaleigh Ashford, Elizabeth Ashley and tons more. This Pulitzer Prize-winning gem is both a joy for Broadway superfans and a fun evening for theater novices, too. Click for tickets!
SIDE SHOW
Chances are, your know-it-all pal has at least one copy of the original cast recording of Side Show in one of those giant CD binders from the ‘90s (and has it backed up on his computer, iPhone and iPad). The new, revamped production features Emily Padgett and Erin Davie as real-life conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton. By the way, it's going to be really, really hard for your friend not to hum along to “I Will Never Leave You.” You’ve been warned. Click for tickets!
DISGRACED
Even if your buddy caught the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by Ayad Akhtar at Lincoln Center Theater in 2012, this show is definitely worth a second look. Featuring Hari Dhillon, Gretchen Mol, Josh Radnor, Karen Pittman and Danny Ashok, this story about a Muslim-American lawyer who hosts a dinner party that quickly turns into a debate is a gripping ride that’ll keep your know-it-all pal on the edge of his seat.
