Rumer Willis Set for Dear John Hughes
Don’t you forget about him! For the Record: Dear John Hughes, an immersive concert mash-up of the legendary director’s work, will play Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse March 5 through March 15. Starring Pretty Little Liars and off-Broadway alum Rumer Willis (you may recognize her parents, to the left), the show will celebrate Hughes’ movies including The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful and Sixteen Candles. Your Netflix Date With Norbert Leo Butz
Norbert Leo Butz is heading to a small screen/computer/mobile device near you this March. Bloodline, the previously reported Netflix thriller series starring the two-time Tony Award winner, will hit the internet on March 20, according to HitFix. Joining Butz in the series are fellow Broadway alum Steven Pasquale, Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini and Sissy Spacek. Get ready to binge-watch some Butz!
Billy Elliot Gets a New Grandma
Gillian Elisa has been tapped to play Grandma in London’s Billy Elliot the Musical, having previously alternated in the role. Elisa takes over from Ann Emery who originated the character in 2005 and who recently retired from the show at the age of 84, having worked with all 39 London Billy Elliots.
This Song Will Save Your Life to be Adapated for the Stage
Leila Sales’ young adult novel This Song Will Save Your Life, which follows the story of a girl's rise from social outcast to DJ sensation, will be adapted for stage and film. Tony-winning producer Kevin McCollum (In the Heights, Avenue Q, Rent) along with Michael Novick, who was a creator and original producer of Glee, have snapped up the rights. Definitely one to watch.
Forest Whitaker's Eyeing Broadway
Oscar winner Forest Whitaker wants to be on Broadway, perhaps even in a musical. He stopped by LIVE with Kelly and Michael on January 7, below, and revealed that he’s “talking to different producers to figure out what I might be able to do.” We hope to see you here soon, Forest!
