Felicity Kendal will star in Noel Coward’s Hay Fever in London’s West End. Directed by Lindsay Posner, the play is set for a limited engagement at the Duke of York’s Theatre April 29 through August 1. Opening night is scheduled for May 11.
Hay Fever follows Judith (Kendal), the once glittering star of the London stage and member of the Bliss family. Together with her husband David, an egocentric novelist, and Sorel and Simon, their two Bohemian adult children, the family are incapable of sharing the spotlight. Unconventional, risqué, and often downright rude, they are everything a respectable English family should not be. When each member of the family invites a guest to their rural retreat, the unassuming visitors are thrown into a living melodrama. Misjudged meetings, secret seductions and scandalous revelations proliferate during one outrageous weekend in Berkshire.
Kendal is best known for her TV work in The Good Life. Her recent West End appearances have included Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking, Coward’s The Vortex and Bernard Shaw’s Mrs Warren’s Profession.
The production previously played the Theatre Royal Bath and toured Australia. Further casting will be announced later.
