“When I was in the womb, my mom only listened to Broadway CDs. I would play The Secret Garden and Once Upon a Mattress every night as a kid. I’ve basically been a musical theater nerd since birth.”
“I did the Mary Kate & Ashley Fashion Show when I was 12. We did a choreographed pillow fight and a beach segment with swimwear and had a skater punk band on stage.”
“My degree is in Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. It’s in the special skills section of my musical theater resume.”
“I would crash Equity auditions when I first came here. I was just so excited to be here. I was like the Star to Be Annie—I would freak out if I saw a Broadway star chilling in the hallway while I was waiting.”
“Mahi is such a surprise. She’s like a play on [South Pacific characters] Bloody Mary and Liat combined into one, but with a lot of humor. She looks like the epitome of an island girl with her pink bikini and hip-shaking hula movements, but then it all comes crashing down.”
“I'm learning how to cook. I would try to make rice—which is the food of my people [in the Phillippines]—and burn it. It was so embarrassing. Now I’m obsessed with Blue Apron. I feel like an adult.”
