Anne Hathaway is eyeing a run at New York’s Public Theater this spring. According to The Daily Mail, the Les Miz Oscar winner is in final negotiations to star in George Brant's Grounded. Directed and designed by The Lion King’s Julie Taymor, the one-woman-show follows a hot shot fighter pilot who is prevented from flying when she becomes pregnant. The play previously ran in New York last year at Walkerspace in TriBeCa, starring Hannah Cabell.
Sarah Brightman's $52 Million Space Ticket
Sarah Brightman has laid down $52 million for her return ticket to space! The Guardian reports that Phantom’s original Christine will make her long-awaited visit to the International Space Station on a Russian Soyuz capsule and that she’s already arrived in Russia to begin her training program, although she hasn't started it yet because she's got a cold. In nine months she’ll be a real-life starship trooper!
Zachary Levi's a Reborn Hero
Broadway alum Zachary Levi has been tapped to appear in NBC’s upcoming event miniseries Heroes Reborn. No word yet on who the former First Date star will play, but the original Heroes series, which aired on the Peacock Network 2006 through 2010, chronicled the life-changing stories of a series of unrelated ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities. Heroes Reborn will start airing this summer.
Gone Girl's Carrie Coon Set for Playwrights Horizons
Gone Girl and Leftovers’ Carrie Coon is heading off-Broadway. The Tony nominee will appear in the previously announced Placebo at Playwrights Horizons, stepping in for Kristen Connolly. Written by Melissa James Gibson and directed by Daniel Aukin, the production will begin previews on February 20, open on March 16 and run through April 5.
Is a Stevie Wonder Tuner Broadway-Bound?
It would seem NBC has been bitten by the Broadway bug—the network has announced plans for Freedom Run, a series about the Underground Railroad, which is hoped will be adapted into a Great White Way musical. The TV show will be executive produced by Grammy and Oscar-winning legend Stevie Wonder, who is attached to score the production. We're sure Main Stem theater owners are just calling to say how much they love him already.
