It’s Only a Play star Martin Short stopped by The Today Show on January 27, and, uh, things went south pretty quickly. By which we mean they discussed joint colonoscopies with Steve Martin and Tom Hanks. As one does. But before that, the Tony and Emmy winner chatted stepping into the Terrence McNally comedy at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (they originally started at the Schoenfeld Theatre before moving next door). At first he didn't want to do the show, but as he explains, Mike Nichols can be very persuasive over the phone. Short also talked about the dangers of both good and bad reviews, as is the purview of the show. “I think sometimes even good reviews can be dangerous,” he said, “because they say, ‘Mr. Short moved his arm in that emotional way to reach the glass,’ and then the next night,” well, just watch.
