Baz Luhrmann’s hip-hop drama, The Get Down, has landed a series order from Netflix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 13 episodes will mark the director’s TV series debut and his first screen musical project since Moulin Rouge. You’ll be able to stream the show next year.
Mandy Patinkin Eyeing Christopher Hampton Movie
Tony winner Mandy Patinkin is circling feature film Ali & Nino, which is adapted from Kurban Said’s best-selling novel by Tony winner Christopher Hampton. Set during World War I and Azerbaijan’s fight for independence, the love story follows a Muslim boy and a Christian girl and, Deadline reports, will begin shooting this month.
Public Studio Returns With Two New Plays
Public Studio is back! Two new plays will run in repertory from February 20 to March 1 in The Public’s Shiva Theater. Christina Gorman’s Fidels is a new drama about what we owe to those who serve and will be directed by Leah C. Gardiner. Ping Pong, written by Rogelio Martinez, is based on the true events surrounding the groundbreaking table tennis tournament that marked a decisive new chapter in US-China relations. The show will be helmed by Kate Whoriskey.
