Kornfield Kounty is heading to Texas! Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical, inspired by the classic TV variety show, will make its world premiere at the Dallas Theater Center this fall. Directed by Gary Griffin, performances will run from September 2 through October 11.
The tuner will feature a book by Robert Horn. Penning the score is a duo of 2015 Grammy-nominated country stars: Brandy Clark and Grammy winner Shane McAnally.
As previously reported, an industry only reading took place in December 2013. At the time, it was speculated that the musical would head to Broadway as early as this spring. No plans for a move to the Great White Way following the Texas engagement have been announced.
Set in present day Kornfield Kounty, Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical introduces a new generation of characters as it tells the story of Misty Mae, the ultimate hometown girl, who heads out to follow her dreams in the big city of...Tampa. When she returns home to introduce her slick city-boy beau to her friends and family, everything goes haywire.
The production will feature set design by John Lee Beatty and costumes by Mara Blumenfeld. Denis Jones will choreograph.
