How many lives has Cats now had?! The acclaimed West End revival of the classic tuner, which is currently playing an extended limited run at the London Palladium through April 25, may return to the venue this Christmas. According to The Daily Mail, Andrew Lloyd Webber wants the musical to play another limited engagement over the 2015 holiday season.
As we previously reported, the legendary composer will then bring Cats back to the Great White Way in 2016, potentially starring Nicole Scherzinger, who is currently playing Grizabella in the show. Scherzinger departs the production this weekend and will be replaced by Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Kerry Ellis from February 9.
Cats, featuring a score by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by T.S. Eliot, Trevor Nunn and Richard Stilgoe, ran for 21 years in London and 18 years on Broadway. It won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Based on Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, the tuner tells the story of the Jellicle cats and each cat's individual quest to be selected as the lucky one who will ascend to "the Heaviside Layer."
