The 2015-16 MCC Theater season will feature three New York premieres. The season kicks off with Matthew Lopez’s The Legend of Georgia McBride. Next will be John Pollono’s Lost Girls, followed by Smokefall by Noah Haidle. A fourth production will be announced at a later date. All shows will play the Lucille Lortel Theatre off-Broadway.
Lopez’s The Legend of Georgia McBride follows Casey, an Elvis impersonator-turned-drag queen of the Florida Panhandle. Performances will run from August 20 through September 27. Opening night is set for September 9. Mike Donahue will direct.
Lost Girls marks Pollono’s return to MCC alongside director Jo Bonney following the 2013 thriller Small Engine Repair. The new drama, which will begin on October 22, explores a blue-collar family’s struggle to rise above their limited means after a divorce and the disappearance of their teenage daughter. The play will open on November 9 and run through November 29.
Anne Kauffman, who directed MCC’s current production of The Nether, will helm Haidle’s Smokefall. The show combines magical realism with manic vaudeville while introducing audiences to two prenatal philosophy-swapping Twins, a dirt-eating Beauty, Father and the show’s guide, a man named Footnote. Performances will run from February 3, 2016 through March 13. Opening night is set for February 22.
Additional information, including creative team and cast, for these productions will be announced later.
