Barry Manilow on Sting & Bringing Harmony to B'way
Barry Manilow still hopes that his musical Harmony, which has previously played in Atlanta and L.A., will come to the Great White Way. However, the Grammy—and honorary Tony—winning icon is wary about the move to New York. “You just don't play around with this Broadway musical thing unless you just want to lose everything,” Manilow told Billboard. “Look what happened to Sting (and The Last Ship)…he did a beautiful job and they lost everything.” Harmony tells the story of a group of young men in 1920s Germany who formed one of the world’s first boy bands and rose to superstardom around the globe. There is Nothing Like Dame Helen Mirren
The Audience star Helen Mirren will be honored by Roundabout at their annual spring gala. There is Nothing Like a Dame will take place on March 2 at the Waldorf Astoria, where the Oscar winner will be presented with the Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre. Scott Ellis will direct the tribute, which will feature Jennifer Garner, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Laura Benanti, Santino Fontana, Kelli O’Hara, Laura Osnes and more. Mirren begins performances in The Audience on February 14 at the Gerald Schoenfeld—sounds like the perfect Valentine's date destination to us!
The Actors Fund to Award Mike Bloomberg
Spring—and Tony season—must be around the corner with all these fancy events being announced! The Actors Fund will pay tribute to entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael R. Bloomberg at its annual gala on May 11 at the New York Marriott Marquis. The former Big Apple Mayor will receive the Fund’s Medal of Honor, the highest award given by the 133-year old non-profit human services organization serving everyone in performing arts and entertainment.
Watch Rosie O'Donnell Talk Leaving The View
Eyebrows were raised when Rosie O'Donnell didn't address her reasons for leaving The View on the ABC show earlier this week. However, the honorary Tony winner later posted her explanation online, saying she was "minimizing my stress" because of health issues. It was also recently revealed that O'Donnell is divorcing her wife Michelle Rounds, who she married in 2012, and there have additionally been rumors that all was not well behind-the-scenes with the show.
