Plays by Emily Schwend and Fernanda Coppel will make their world premieres at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre as part of the 13th annual Second Stage Uptown Series this summer. Casting and design teams for both productions will be announced at a later date.
Schwend’s The Other Thing will run May 12 through June 7. Directed by Lucie Tiberghien, opening night is set for May 21. Kim is a journalist, writing what she thinks will be a run-of-the-mill article about a father and son team of ghost hunters in rural Virginia. As the three of them pass the evening outside a haunted barn, waiting for spirits to reveal themselves, what begins as just another day at the office soon becomes a night none of them will forget. In the paranormal world, the ghosts you hunt may be closer than you think.
King Liz, which is penned by Coppel and will be helmed by Lisa Peterson, is set to begin previews on July 13. The production will officially open on July 23 and end its limited engagement on August 8. Sports agent Liz Rico has money and an elite client roster but a woman in a man’s industry has to fight to stay on top. She’s worked twice as hard to get where she is and wants to take over the agency that she's helped build. Enter Freddie Luna, a high school basketball superstar with a troubled past. If Liz can keep this talented yet volatile young star in line, she just might end up making not only his career, but her own as well. But at what price?
