Michael Urie and Dale Soules will join the previously announced Patti LuPone in Shows For Days, a new semi-autobiographical play by Douglas Carter Beane. The Lincoln Center Theater production will begin performances on June 6 at off-Broadway’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Opening night is set for June 29. Jerry Zaks will direct.
Urie most recently appeared off-Broadway as Alex in Buyer and Cellar—a a performance he went on to reprise in a national tour last year. His additional credits include How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Broadway and The Cherry Orchard, Angels in America and The Tempermentals off-Broadway. On the small screen, he was featured in Ugly Betty (with LuPone guest starring as his mom!).
Soules can currently be seen in Posterity off-Broadway. She has appeared on Broadway in Hands on a Hardbody, Grey Gardens, The Crucible, The Magic Show Whose Life Is It Anyway?, Dude and Hair. Her screen credits include Orange is the New Black.
Shows For Days follows 14-year-old Car (Urie), who becomes involved in community theater in Reading, Pennsylvania at the Prometheus Theatre. The theater is led by Irene (LuPone) a woman who dedicates her life to directing, designing and starring in the group’s shows. Soules will be featured as a member of Irene’s theater troupe. Additional caster will be announced later.
The production will feature sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Natasha Katz and sound design by Leon Rothenberg.
