Well, this Tony winner has always been out of this world whenever she's graced the Broadway stage! Laura Benanti has been tapped to play Supergirl’s mom. According to Deadline, the Spring Spectacular and Nashvillle star will take on the pivotal recurring role in the CBS pilot Supergirl.
Benanti will play noblewoman Alura Zor-El, the mom of Kara (Melissa Benoist), who sends her daughter to earth to avoid Krypton’s annihilation. However, Alura’s intelligence and advice spans across space and time and is crucial in helping Kara become Supergirl.
Benanti, who will next tread the boards in the Rockettes' New York Spring Spectacular, has most recently been seen on screen in Nashville. She took home a Tony for her performance in Gypsy and was also nominated for Into the Woods and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Break Down.
