SpongeBob SquarePants Musical Adaptation In the Works & Eyeing Broadway

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Broadway may soon find out! A SpongeBob SquarePants musical is in the works. According to EW, the stage adaptation of the hit Nickelodeon cartoon is eyeing a run on the Great White Way.

SpongeBob will be helmed by Big Love’s Tina Landau, with original music by names such as John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Aerosmith, T.I. and Sara Bareilles. The TV series, created by Stephen Hillenburg, follows the escapades of the title character and his friends in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom.

The opening number of the stage adaptation is currently called "Bikini Bottom Day." Wait, this is a kids show?!
