Neil Patrick Harris' Oscars hosting debut last month is likely also his Oscars hosting swan song. The Hedwig and the Angry Inch Tony winner told the Huffington Post that he's checked the gig off his bucket list and doesn't feel the need to revisit the experience.
“I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it,” he said. “It was fun to check off the list, but for the amount of time spent and the understandable opinionated response, I don’t know that it’s a delightful balance to do every year or even again.”
Harris’ performance as host received mixed responses, and the broadcast was the least-watched Academy Awards since the 2009 ceremony (which was hosted by Hugh Jackman).
Harris, who called the post-Oscars experience a "bereavement," says that he "didn't keep up with [the response] obsessively, but it was interesting to see just what people thought landed and didn’t." While we may not see the song-and-dance man emcee Hollywood’s biggest night again, there's no word yet on whether he'll return to the Tony Awards host position. If so, it would be his fifth time as the emcee.
