The world premiere of Halley Feiffer’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City (say that in one breath) will round out MCC Theater’s 2015-16 season. The dark comedy will begin performances at off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre beginning in August 2016. Trip Cullman, who is set to direct, recently helmed Feiffer's I'm Gonna Pray For You So Hard at Atlantic Theater Company. Futher information, including exact dates and cast, will be announced at a later date.
The play follows a young foul-mouthed comedienne and her middle-aged soon-to-be divorcee as their cancer patient mothers become roommates in the hospital. Through some extremely inappropriate jokes, the pair learns to treat pain with laughter together, despite their own messy relationship status.
As previously reported, the upcoming MCC lineup also includes the New York premieres of Matthew Lopez’s The Legend of Georgia McBride, John Pollono’s Lost Girls and Smokefall by Noah Haidle.
