As previously reported, Broadway alum and Pitch Perfect fave Ben Platt will indeed star in the world premiere of Dear Evan Hansen. The musical, written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, will begin performances on July 10 at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. and run through August 23. Michael Greif is set to direct. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
With a book by Steven Levenson, lyrics by Pasek and music by Paul, the show follows Evan Hansen, who’s about to find out what it really means to belong. Dear Evan Hansen is the contemporary story of his search for the things in life we all need: Friends, family and a place to call home.
Platt made his Broadway debut in The Book of Mormon last year, reprising his role as Elder Cunningham, which he previously played on the road. His film credits include Pitch Perfect and the upcoming sequel, as well as Ricki and the Flash opposite Meryl Streep.
