Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today and over the weekend.
Anna Wintour to 'Spruce Up' Tony Red Carpet
Remember last year, when Anna Wintour, the English editor-in-chief of American Vogue, labeled Tony fashion “a disaster?” Well, according to the New York Post, American Theatre Wing chair and costume designer William Ivey Long has enlisted Wintour as an “unpaid, uncredited, top-secret consultant” who will "spruce up the carpet." (And no doubt bar anyone wearing a mermaid fishtail strapless sequin gown from entry.)
Ken Ludwig's Follow-Up to Lend Me a Tenor
Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors will make its world premiere as part of the Cleveland Play House’s 100th Anniversary Season. The farce follows some of Ludwig’s characters from his comedic hit, Lend Me a Tenor. Set amidst the glitz and glamour of 1930s Paris, producer—and former mayor of Cleveland—Henry Saunders is attempting to stage the concert of the century. But with an amorous Italian superstar and his hot-blooded wife causing chaos on an operatic level, all bets are off! Directed by Stephen Wadsworth, the production will play the Allen Theatre September 5 through October 3.
Gary Barlow's New Tuner Sets World Premiere
Finding Neverland composer Gary Barlow’s The Girls will receive its world premiere at the U.K.’s Grand Theatre Leeds (November 15 through December 12) before moving on to the Lowry Salford (January 13, 2016 through January 30). As previously reported, the Take That star is working with Tim Firth on adapting Firth’s film and award-winning play Calendar Girls into a musical. The news comes hot on the heels of an industry workshop for the show that Broadway.com’s spies tell us was excellent.
