New Les Miserables Standout Brennyn Lark on Her Brooklyn Obsession & Singing ‘On My Own’ in Her Socks

Current Role: A powerhouse Broadway debut as Eponine, a street urchin with a hopeless crush on her best pal Marius (played by Chris McCarrell) in Les Miserables.

Stage & Screen Cred: Before making her debut in Les Miz, Lark appeared in Dreamgirls, Aida and The Wiz and graduated from the American Musical Dramatic Academy.

“I was that annoying child who did everything for a week but would then quit. I did softball, basketball, tennis, Girl Scouts, gymnastics...everything. I feel bad for my parents!”

“Growing up, I knew I wanted to do anything with music. My dad was into The Jackson Five and Otis Redding, my mom loved musical theater and Barbra Streisand, and my grandmother was always listening to jazz.”

“The first Broadway show I absolutely adored was Brooklyn. I saw it when I was 13 and I was obsessed with it. Eden Espinosa! I sang those songs in my room way too often and far too much.”

“In the audition room, I had to sing ‘On My Own’ so many times—this is so bad, but I barely knew it, even though it’s such a theater staple. They had me take off my shoes; I have no idea why. So I sang ‘On My Own’ eight times in my socks!”

“I’m really into metaphysical stuff, so I have a collection of crystals and amethyst and quartz in my dressing room. I love to meditate and try to ground myself as much as possible—I’m all about good vibes and positive energy.”

“When I interact with fans on social media and then see them later at the stage door, those are the best moments. A lot of young girls come up to me and say that I inspire them. That’s a great accomplishment. If I can inspire someone, I’m doing all of this for a greater purpose.”
