Larry David will play his final performance in his self-penned Broadway comedy Fish in the Dark, but the part of Normal Drexel is staying in the Seinfeld family! Tony winner Jason Alexander—a.k.a. George Costanza (a part based on Seinfeld co-creator David)—will assume the role beginning June 9. The production has extended its limited run at the Cort Theatre through July 19, instead of the originally scheduled June 7.
Alexander took home a Tony in 1989 for Jerome Robbins’ Broadway. His additional Broadway credits include Merrily We Roll Along, The Rink, Broadway Bound and Accomplice. Fish in the Dark marks his return to the Great White Way after 25 years—almost to the day (Accomplice closed on June 10, 1990). He was nominated for an Emmy for his performance on Seinfeld for seven consecutive years. His additional screen credits include The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pretty Woman and Bye Bye Birdie.
In addition to David, the cast of Fish in the Dark also includes Rita Wilson, Rosie Perez, Jayne Houdyshell, Ben Shenkman, Lewis J. Stadlen, Jake Cannavale, Marylouise Burke, Jerry Adler, Jenn Lyon, Jonny Orsini, Molly Ranson, Maria Elena Ramirez, Rachel Resheff, Joel Rooks, Jeff Still, Kenneth Tigar and Richard Topol.
