Broadway.com has confirmed that Glenne Headly has temporarily replaced Rita Wilson as Brenda in Fish in the Dark on Broadway. A spokesperson for the production said that Wilson was on brief medical leave and expected to return to the comedy, written by and starring Seinfeld co-creator Larry David, on May 5.
Headly received Emmy nominations for her performances in Lonesome Dove and Bastard Out of Carolina. Her film credits include Don Jon, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Mr. Holland’s Opus and Dick Tracy. She made her Broadway debut in the 1985 revival of Arms and the Man. Prior to that, she appeared off-Broadway in Extremities and The Philanthropist. In 2013, she starred in the New Groups' The Jacksonian.
As previously reported, fellow Seinfeld alum Jason Alexander will succeed David in the role of Norman beginning June 9. The Anna D. Shapiro-helmed production will run on extension through July 19 at the Cort Theatre.
In addition to Headly and David, the current cast of Fish in the Dark includes Rosie Perez, Jayne Houdyshell, Ben Shenkman, Lewis J. Stadlen, Jake Cannavale, Marylouise Burke, Jerry Adler, Jenn Lyon, Jonny Orsini, Molly Ranson, Maria Elena Ramirez, Rachel Resheff, Joel Rooks, Jeff Still, Kenneth Tigar and Richard Topol.
