David Mamet’s Speed-The-Plow, which first played Broadway in 1988, is heading for a movie theater near you! Deadline reports that the playwright himself will adapt the work for film, which will be produced by Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, Winkler Films and The Fyzz Facility.
Speed-the-Plow focuses on two high-powered Hollywood executives, Charlie Fox and Bobby Gould, who have come up from the mailroom together. Charlie brings Bobby a surefire hit with a major star attached. Bobby seems certain to give the green light, until his beautiful new secretary, Karen, gets involved.
Madonna famously originated the role of Karen on Broadway and the play was most recently revived in London last year with Lindsay Lohan in the role. No word yet on casting but after proving the doubters wrong and having made every performance punctually, we imagine Lohan's agents are already making calls!
Others who’ve headlined the show include Joe Mantegna, Ron Silver, Jeremy Piven (before sushi got the better of him and he was replaced by Norbert Leo Butz then William H. Macy), Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Spacey, Alfred Molina, Alicia Silverstone and Elisabeth Moss.
