Josh Gad, Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz Join Forces
This is some lineup. Tony nominee and Frozen fave Josh Gad has teamed up with writer-director Jeremy Garelick, along with Alan Menken (Aladdin, Newsies, etc.) and Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, etc.) for an untitled musical comedy film. According to Deadline, multiple studios are bidding for the project, which is unsurprising, bearing in mind the stellar track record of all involved—Menken and Schwartz even shared an Academy Award for their work on Pocahontas.
Rocky Horror Event Special In The Works
Kenny Ortega will direct and choreograph a Rocky Horror Picture Show “event special” for Fox. Variety reports that the 40th anniversary revival is in the early stages of development and dependent on casting, while The Wrap writes that it is expected to bow at Halloween. We will keep you posted! As previously reported, Shock Treatment, an adaptation of the flop 1981 sequel to the hit 1975 cult movie, will begin performances at London’s King’s Head Theatre on April 17.
Finding Neverland Garners Elliot Norton Nods
Finding Neverland, which is currently in previews at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, has received multiple Elliot Norton Award nominations. The awards recognize achievements in Boston theater, where the musical ran at American Repertory Theater last year. Finding Neverland picked up nods for Outstanding Musical Production, Outstanding Musical Performance by an Actress for Broadway.com vlogger Laura Michelle Kelly and Outstanding Choreography for Mia Michaels. Great White Way vets Cicely Tyson, Martin Moran and more were also nominated. Winners will be announced by the Boston Theater Critics Association on May 11 at the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre.
Calling All Budding Producers!
This sounds like the chance of a lifetime! T. Fellowship, in association with Columbia University School of the Arts, will accept applications through May 15. The one-year Fellowship program is designed to educate and empower new creative producers and the Fellow will receive a stipend of $10,000 with a $20,000 budget for the development of a new theatrical production. Big-name Broadway mentors include Harold Prince, Margo Lion, Gregory Mosher, Tom Schumacher, Jeffrey Seller and David Stone.
