A whole crew of Broadway’s best will join forces for the 29th annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Easter Bonnet Competition. On the Twentieth Century headliner Kristin Chenoweth, Finding Neverland’s Matthew Morrison, Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Audience queen Helen Mirren and more will participate in the festivities on April 20 and 21 at the Minskoff Theatre.
Chenoweth, Morrison, Miranda and Mirren will announce the top fundraising and best presentation awards on April 20. The performances will additionally feature current The Book of Mormon star Gavin Creel with an arrangement of “Help Is on the Way,” the BC/EFA Easter Bonnet anthem.
Also taking part over the two days are Tony winner Andrea Martin, Tituss Burgess, Ann Harada, Kinky Boots players Adinah Alexander, Jen Perry and Daniel Stewart Sherman, Hand to God star Steven Boyer, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’s Alex Sharp and Francesca Faridany, Hamilton’s Jasmine Cephas Jones, Renee Elise Goldsberry and Phillipa Soo, Honeymoon in Vegas stars Rob McClure and Nancy Opel, Aaron Nelson and Alton Fitzgerald White from The Lion King and It’s Only a Play fresh face Micah Stock.
This year’s judges’ panel will include Fun Home stars Michael Cerveris and Judy Kuhn, Gigi duo Corey Cott and Vanessa Hudgens, An American in Paris standout Robert Fairchild and director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, The Audience’s Judith Ivey and Rufus White and Nathaniel Parker from Wolf Hall. Also on board are Actors Fund President and CEO Joseph Benincasa and Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction winners Jake Perlman and Peg Wendlandt.
An annual Broadway tradition, the Easter Bonnet Competition is the conclusion of six intensive weeks of fundraising efforts by participating productions on and off-Broadway, as well as on tour. The winner of the competition is the company that raises the largest sum for BC/EFA. Awards are also granted to the company with the best bonnet design and presentation, as well as the Broadway play, national tour and off-Broadway production that raises the largest amount for BC/EFA.
