Indecent, a new play by Pulitzer winner Paula Vogel, along with the Susan Stroman-helmed Dot, are slated for Vineyard Theatre’s upcoming 2015-16 season. Casting for both productions, as well as a third mainstage show, will be announced later. Meanwhile, Kander & Pierce's Kid Victory will kick off the off-Broadway house’s 2016-17 season.
Colman Domingo’s Dot is set to bow early in 2016, directed by Stroman. The play concerns what happens when family matriarch Dotty and her three adult children gather for the holidays with more than exchanging presents on their minds. As Dotty struggles to navigate life with dementia, her children fight to balance care for their mother and care for themselves.
Vogel created Indecent with director Rebecca Taichman and the show is scheduled for its debut at The Vineyard in the spring of 2016. A play with music, the production is inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance, a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel.
Kid Victory will receive its off-Broadway premiere next fall. The previously reported new musical by John Kander and Greg Pierce, which was in development at The Vineyard prior to its premiere at Signature Theatre in Virginia this past February, has story by Kander & Pierce, music by Kander, book and lyrics by Pierce and is directed by Liesl Tommy.
