Oh yes, all the man musical that you need is coming to North America! The musical adaptation of the popular 1992 Whitney Houston film The Bodyguard will launch a national tour in the fall of 2016. Grammy nominee Deborah Cox (Broadway's Jekyll & Hyde) will headline the tour as superstar Rachel Marron. Additional casting and the tour's schedule will be announced at a later date.
Based on Lawrence Kasdan’s Oscar-nominated film, starring Houston and Kevin Costner, and adapted for the stage by Oscar winner Alexander Dinelaris, The Bodyguard had its world premiere in December 2012 at London’s Adelphi Theatre. Directed by Thea Sharrock, the musical was nominated for four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. The Bodyguard ended its West End run in August 2014 and is currently touring the U.K. and Ireland.
Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron (Cox) from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love. A romantic thriller, The Bodyguard features a host of irresistible classics including “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “One Moment in Time,” “Saving All My Love,” “Run to You,” “I Have Nothing,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and one of the best-selling singles of all time—“I Will Always Love You.”
The Bodyguard features set and costume design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Mark Henderson and sound design by Richard Brooker, choreography by Karen Bruce and orchestrations and additional music by Chris Egan.
