B'way-Bound Keira Knightley Welcomes First Child
Congratulations to stage and screen star Keira Knightley, who has given birth to her first child with hubby James Righton. According to E! News there's no word yet on whether the bundle of joy is a boy or a girl, but he or she will definitely soon be bound for New York! As previously reported, Knightley is set to begin previews on Broadway in Thérèse Raquin on October 21 at Studio 54.
Anne Meara Dead at 85
Anne Meara, Tony nominated for Anna Christie, died on May 23, aged 85, The New York Times reports. Along with her husband Jerry Stiller, she was one-half of the legendary comedy duo, Stiller and Meara, as well as having a long and distinguished career on screen and stage—she was additionally seen on the Great White Way in Eastern Standard, Miss Lonelyhearts, The Good Woman of Setzuan and A Month in the Country. Meera later turned her skills to playwriting, penning the off-Broadway shows After-Play and Down the Garden Paths. She is survived by her husband Jerry, her son, the actor and director Ben Stiller, her daughter, actress and comedian Amy Stiller, and two grandchildren.
Jill Santoriello's New Tuner
Switching gears, A Tale of Two Cities scribe Jill Santoriello is working on a new musical, It Happened in Key West! According to Adweek, the show is set in the 1930s and follows the true story of Count Carl Von Cosel’s morbid love affair with Elena Hoyos, with him even installing a telephone in her tomb so he could converse with her.
Alison Pill Weds Joshua Leonard
Broadway and The Newsroom alum Alison Pill got hitched over the weekend to her beau Joshua Leonard. “"We're married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #pillnard,” wrote Pill on Instagram. Aren't the happy couple adorable below?!
Sting Wants to Pen Another Musical!
Sting recently stopped by The Tonight Show to drink wine (what is this, Kathie Lee and Hoda?) and talk about his Tony nomination for The Last Ship. It was "the most wonderful adventure of my life," the Grammy winner said about working on the production. Host Jimmy Fallon wanted to know whether he'd do it again?
