Coming through, coming through! Broadway.com has confirmed that Great White Way alum Keke Palmer will appear in Fox’s forthcoming live telecast of Grease. Palmer, who made her Broadway debut last year in Cinderella, will play Marty Maraschino (of "Freddy, My Love" and “Like, does he have a car?” fame.) She joins previously announced cast members Julianne Hough as Sandy and Gigi star Vanessa Hudgens as Betty Rizzo. The Pink Ladies hit the small screen on January 31, 2016.
Palmer’s film and TV credits include the upcoming Ryan Murphy series Scream Queens, Masters of Sex, The Trip to Bountiful, Akeelah and the Bee, Joyful Noise, The Cleaner, True Jackson, VP and 90210. Her debut album So Uncool was released by Atlantic Records in 2007. In June, Palmer became the youngest talk show host at the age of 20 with BET’s Just Keke.
The popular tuner, which features a score and book by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, follows teenagers in love during the soda shop culture of the 1950s. The show premiered on Broadway in 1972 and has been revived on Broadway twice since. The 1978 film adaptation starred John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John and Stockard Channing.
Robert Cary and Buyer & Cellar scribe Jonathan Tolins will pen a new script for television. The two recently contributed additional book material to the current revival of On the Town. Complete casting for the Fox and Paramount Television project, including the role of Danny Zuko, will be announced at a later time, though Broadway.com fans have already voiced that they want a certain glittery rock goddess to don the leather jacket.
