Put on your favorite scarf and get ready for the penultimate Younger recap of season one! Last week, Liza faced an upsetting setback at Empirical and drank some wine with Lauren and her fam. This week, she’s back on her feet at work and…oh. She’s still drinking wine (well, Manischewitz, among other things) with Lauren and her fam. Lauren throws a hot mitzvah (a not-exactly-traditional Jewish celebration 13 years after her bat mitzvah), and it’s apparently the perfect place to make bold, relationship status-altering revelations. But first, Liza locks down a book doctor gig at Empirical. Read all about it below!
EPISODE 11: Hot Mitzvah
Liza the Literate Makes a Comeback
Curled up on the couch and popcorn at her side, Liza embraces her inner Olivia Pope as she tries her hand a book doctoring for a woman in her 40s. To no one’s surprise, Liza flourishes when able to shed her—all together, now—younger façade. She nails it, and at Kelsey/Kelsey’s topknot’s insistence, Charles arranges a meeting between Liza the book doctor and Megan the author. It seems to go well as Liza offers unexpected insight, but as it turns out, Megan wasn’t feeling it. What’s important, though, is that Liza is being pushed and recognized by Charles; we’re honestly more worried about him finding out her secret than Josh.
The Mysteries of Torah
Okay, let’s get to main event: the titular hot mitzvah. Lauren delivers her d’var Torah, in which she A) unintentionally reads Liza for not coming forward with the truth, and B) title-drops Younger twice. I once attended a bat mitzvah that was Grease-themed and I thought that was fun. But Lauren’s hot mitzvah puts that milkshake bar and commemorative LP to shame. Here are three things that make a hot mitzvah hot:
'Yo Mamma's Spank Bank'
No hot mitzvah is complete without a DJ who introduces himself as “Yo Mamma’s Spank Bank.” Liza’s into it, as evident by these sweet moves...
Club Drugs
Another hot mitzvah necessity? Lauren’s special hot mitzvah shooters, aka Manischevitz and…Molly (a.k.a. Ecstasy)! L’chaim/don’t do drugs?
Molly-Fueled Makeouts with Maggie
In Lauren’s aforementioned d’var Tovah, she lamented her 13-year-old self’s insecurity. But that’s about to change. She’s kissing who she wants to kiss: Maggie, the lesbian artist you only wish were your friend!
The Mysteries of Liza
Hot mitzvahs are the perfect time to tell your lover a big secret. Kelsey and Thad almost come forward about their respective affairs in a rather lackluster mutual admission. But unlike Kelsey, Liza knows she can’t speak in ambiguities. She tells Josh what she wishes she could have long ago, and he leaves. With one episode left, will he come to love Liza despite her age? Will she still fly under the radar at Empirical? Will Diana bless us with one final statement necklace?
Diana's Statement Jewelry of the Week!
There’s (gasp) no new power necklace this week, but with the combination of those earrings and that gold jacket, this is a power everything look. It’s as if Elvis had an affinity for turquoise and was also the Marketing Director at a New York publishing firm.
