Broadway alum Joaquina Kalukango has joined the cast of Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party at New York City Center. She takes over for the previously announced Ciara Renee as Kate. Additionally, Talene Monahon (previously set to appear in the ensemble) will replace Kimiko Glenn as Mae. They join a cast that includes Sutton Foster, Steven Pasquale and more. Performances will run from July 15 through 18 as part of the Encores! Off-Center Series.
Kalukango has appeared on Broadway in Holler if Ya Hear Me and Godspell and in Our Lady of Kibeho, Anthony and Cleopatra, Emotional Creature and Rent off-Broadway. Monahon most recently appeared off-Broadway in MCC’s Permission. Her additional credits include Here’s Hoover!, The Seagull and Our Town.
In addition to Foster as Queenie and Pasquale as Burrs, the cast also includes John Ellison Conlee as Eddie, Brandon Victor Dixon as Black and Miriam Shor as Madelaine True.
The musical is adapted from the Jazz Age narrative poem by Joseph Moncure March and is the story of one tragic, decadent night in a Manhattan apartment shared by Queenie (Foster) and her menacing lover, and the handsome stranger (Dixon) who wants to lure her away. It opened at Manhattan Theatre Club on February 24, 2000 and played 54 performances. The Encores! presentation is directed by Leigh Silverman and choreographed by Sonya Tayeh.
