All hands are now on deck! Matilda favorite Lesli Margherita, John Bolton, Mara Davi, Danny Gardner, Eloise Kropp and Cary Tedder will climb aboard the Broadway premiere of Dames at Sea. Performances will begin on September 24 at the Helen Hayes Theatre, where it will open officially on October 22.
Prior to Matilda, Margherita, who will play Mona Kent, received an Olivier Award for her performance in Zorro in the West End. Her additional credits include Man of La Mancha, Showboat, Little Shop of Horrors and literally thousands of Broadway.com vlogs.
Bolton will appear as The Captain/Hennesey. He most recently appeared on Broadway in A Christmas Story; his additional Great White Way credits include Curtains, Spamalot, Contact, Titanic, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Damn Yankees.
Davi will play Joan. She made her Broadway debut as Maggie in the 2006 revival of A Chorus Line and later replaced Sutton Foster in The Drowsy Chaperone. Her additional credits include Beaches and My Paris on stage and Blue Bloods and Smash on screen.
Gardner is set to take on the role of Lucky. He recently appeared in the City Center Encores! presentation of Lady, Be Good!. Dames at Sea will mark his Broadway debut.
Kropp will play Ruby. She recently made her Broadway debut in On the Town; her additional New York credits include Little Me and The Most Happy Fella at Encores!.
Tedder will appear as Dick. He returns to Broadway after appearing in Honeymoon in Vegas, Big Fish, Memphis and The Times They Are A-Changin’.
Randy Skinner will direct the musical, which features a book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller and music by Jim Wise. Dames at Sea tells the story of Ruby, who steps off a bus from Utah and into her first Broadway show. But hours before the opening night curtain is set to rise, the cast learns that their theater is being demolished. With the help of some adoring sailors, Ruby and the cast set a plan in motion to perform the show in a naval battleship.
