After playing Josh Lyman in The West Wing, Bradley Whitford will return to the small screen White House for the HBO adaptation of All The Way. According to Deadline, the Emmy winner and Broadway alum will play Hubert Humphrey, starring opposite the previously announced Bryan Cranston, who reprises his Tony-winning turn as Lyndon B. Johnson.
In addition to being Emmy-nominated three times for The West Wing (winning for the first), Whitford recently earned a nod for his guest performance on Transparent. His additional screen credits include The Cabin in the Woods and Scent of a Woman. He has appeared on Broadway in Boeing-Boeing and A Few Good Men.
The role of Humphrey was played by Robert Petkoff in the Broadway production, which took home the 2014 Tony Award for Best Play. The show, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan, who will also pen the screenplay, begins with the Kennedy assassination and details the first year of Johnson’s presidency, focusing on his involvement with the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The screen adaptation, directed by Jay Roach, will also feature Melissa Leo as Lady Bird Johnson and Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King Jr. Shooting will begin in August.
