The cast is now set for the New York premiere of Invisible Thread. The new musical will star its co-creator Griffin Matthews, off-Broadway alums Nicolette Robinson and Kristlyn Lloyd as Eden and Grace, respectively, and more. The show, written by Matthews and Matt Gould and directed by Tony winner Diane Paulus, will begin on October 31 at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre. Opening night is set for December 2.
The cast will also feature Melody Betts, Rodrick Covington, Kevin Curtis, Tyrone Davis Jr., Nkrumah Gatling, Latrisa Harper, Jason Herbert, Aisha Jackson, Michael Luwoye, Corey Mach, Tiffany Mann, Jeremy Pope, Jamard Richardson, Adeola Role, Conor Ryan and Jamar Williams.
The show had its world premiere at American Repertory Theatre (as Witness Uganda) in February 2014. The Second Stage production is in association with A.R.T. A majority of the cast, including Matthews, Robinson and Lloyd, reprise their performances from the Massachusetts run.
Determined to find his place in the world, 20-something Griffin leaves his job and his New York City apartment to volunteer for a charity in Africa. But when his altruistic aspirations collide with the real world, his life is changed in unexpected ways. Inspired by a true story, Invisible Thread infuses a world pop score with African beats in a journey about discovering whether changing the world is even possible.
In addition to Invisible Thread, Matthews’ has written the musical The Family Project. He appeared off-Broadway previously in Best of Both Worlds. Robinson, who plays Jane on the drama The Affair, recently appeared off-Broadway in Brooklynite. Lloyd returns off-Broadway after appearing in Heathers; she was also a series regular on The Bold and the Beautiful.
