The man behind The Rocky Horror Show would like (if he may) to take you on a strange journey. Richard O’Brien, who wrote the tuner's book and score and played Riff-Raff in the film, will take on the role of the Narrator for 11 performances only at London’s Playhouse Theatre. The engagement is scheduled to run from September 11 through September 19. Additional casting will be announced later. Christopher Luscombe will direct the production.
“I’m delighted to be returning to London, where Rocky started, and performing in the show after more than 20 years," said O’Brien, in a statement. "Everyone should prepare for a night of frolics and celebrations...!”
A live broadcast of the September 17 gala performance benefiting Amnesty International will be presented in movie theaters across Europe. Though nothing is official yet, the Rocky Horror Company and Picturehouse Entertainment hope to bring the broadcast to small screens around the world this fall.
In addition to numerous stints in The Rocky Horror Show around the world, O’Brien has also appeared on stage in Jesus Christ Superstar, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Oliver!. His multiple screen credits following The Rocky Horror Picture Show include Jubilee, Flash Gordon, Dark City and Ever After.
The cult classic musical follows Brad and Janet, an innocent couple that seeks shelter in a dark castle, where they encounter a host of unhinged personalities, including the sweet transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his hunky creation.
