Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Spacey Plans B'way Return
Kevin Spacey is eyeing a return to the Great White Way in a stage adaptation of the 2005 George Clooney movie Good Night, and Good Luck. According to the New York Post, the Tony and Oscar winner would play real-life CBS anchor Edward R. Murrow, who in 1954 challenged Senator Joseph McCarthy’s communist witch hunt, in the production. As the recent former artistic director of the Old Vic, much of Spacey's theatrical work over the past decade has been in London, so he's not been on the Main Stem since 2007’s A Moon for the Misbegotten. We're crossing all fingers and toes that this will be remedied sooner rather than later!
Stockard Channing, Bryce Pinkham & More Team Up
Stockard Channing, A Gentleman’s Guide’s Bryce Pinkham, Spring Awakening’s Krysta Rodriguez and Billy Magnussen are just some of the big names who will join the previously announced Nathan Lane and Debra Messing in a benefit reading of Wesley Taylor’s Bridging the Gap and Other Short Plays. The cast will also include Tracee Chimo, Dane DeHaan and Becca Tobin; the one-night-only Actors Fund event is set for October 26 at New World Stages.
BBC Taps Shakespeare & Motown
Interesting news from the BBC across the pond. Deadline reports that the broadcaster is developing a four-episode musical drama show which is based around Motown’s anthems (the West End production of the tuner Motown is set to begin previews on February 11, 2016). The TV series will follow six intelligent, thirtysomething women’s complex lives. The BBC has also commissioned a 90-minute adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the team behind Doctor Who, and we're told to expect magic, CGI and plenty of prosthetics with the project.
Kristin Chenoweth Manscapes Conan O'Brien
We thought we were quite the Kristin Chenoweth experts, but we had no idea about her penchant for manscaping. Conan O'Brien did though, and when the Tony winner recently stopped by his TV show, she ended up cleaning up his eyebrows. And making the talk show host cry. Check out the hilarious (and slightly painful) segment below. Happy hump day!
