Rose Byrne Set for Plow
Screen fave Rose Byrne, who recently made her Broadway debut in You Can’t Take It With You, is going back to the boards once more! The Australian actress will return home to headline David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow for Sydney Theatre Company in 2016. It will be the last show in outgoing artistic director Andrew Upton’s (Cate Blanchett’s hubby) final season for the organization. The lineup also includes King Charles III, which is set to begin Broadway previews on October 10 and play a limited 16-week engagement through January 31, 2016. The production will then transfer Down Under with Robert Powell replacing Tim Pigott-Smith in the title role.
Skylar Astin to Star Opposite Nick Nolte
Great White Way alum and Pitch Perfect star Skylar Astin has boarded the original series Graves, starring Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon. According to Deadline, the political satire will begin production later this year and bow on Epix this fall. Astin will play Isaiah Miller, an assistant to former President Richard Graves (Nolte), who comes to the conclusion that his policies have hurt the country. The duo go on a journey to right the wrongs…just as Graves’ wife, the former First Lady (Sarandon), resolves to pursue her own political ambitions.
Broadway Alum Vivian Eng Dies After Fire
Sad news to bring you now. Vivian Eng, the neighbor Broadway vet Dylan Baker attempted to rescue at their midtown Manhattan apartment building on Tuesday, died on September 3 from her burns. According to the Times Square Chronicles, the kitchen fire was contained just to Eng's apartment. A former dancer, who appeared on Broadway in the 1996 production of The King and I, she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and her walker did not allow her to escape in time.
