Hey you guys! You may recall back in 2010 that with the 25th anniversary of The Goonies came reports that a stage adaptation of the cult classic was in the works. Now, as the movie celebrates its 30th anniversary, the film's director Richard Donner says that the musical event will land off-Broadway in 2016 or 2017.
"We’re going to do an off-Broadway, do you know what immersion theater is? Where there’s no seats, the venue is you go into a warehouse and there’s something happening in that warehouse and that’s the play you’ve come to see, only you become part of it and you travel through with actors," Donner told Yahoo! "We’re doing one on The Goonies. It will take another year or so but it’s going to be wonderful.”
The Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus-penned 1985 movie starred Broadway veterans Martha Plimpton and Josh Brolin, as well as Corey Feldman and Sean Astin, as a group of teenage treasure hunters.
No word yet on whether writer/producer Tim Long is still on board for the stage incarnation.
