Two-time Tony nominee Andy Karl, Something Rotten!’s Brad Oscar, Tony winners Chuck Cooper and Judy Kaye, Ron Raines and more will join Megan Hilty for Annie Get Your Gun at New York City Center. The annual gala has also added an extra performance; it will now run on October 27 and 28. John Rando will direct the concert presentation.
Karl takes on the role of Frank Butler opposite Hilty’s Annie Oakley. He received Tony nominations for his recent performances in On the Twentieth Century and Rocky. Kaye received Tonys for her performances in Nice Work If You Can Get It and The Phantom of the Opera; she’ll take on the role of Dolly Tate in the concert presentation. Oscar will play Charlie; in addition to his Tony-nominated turn in Something Rotten!, he received a nod for The Producers and appeared in Big Fish, The Addams Family and more. Raines, who will play Buffalo Bill, received a Tony nomination for Follies and last appeared on Broadway in Annie.
The ensemble will include Ward Billeisen, Sam Bolen, Laura D'Andre, Nicolas Dávila, Christine DiGiallonardo, Leah Horowitz, Miles Johnson, Andrea Jones-Sojola, Amy Justman, Patricia Noonan, Daniel Schwait and Nicholas Ward. Additional casting will be announced later.
With a score by Irving Berlin and a book by Herbert and Dorothy Fields, Annie Get Your Gun is inspired by the true story of sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her relationship with Frank Butler. It originally premiered on Broadway in 1946 starring Ethel Merman and has been revived twice. The 1999 revival won Bernadette Peters a Tony Award. Coincidentally, Peters played Hilty’s mom in Smash.
