No wonder they've been nesting! Stage and screen star Rose Byrne is expecting a baby with her long-term boyf, Tony nominee Bobby Cannavale. According to E! Online, the Broadway alums, who have starred together in two movies—2014’s Annie and this year’s Spy—have been dating for about three years. Congratulations to them both!
Sherlock's Andrew Scott Will Lead The Dazzle
Sherlock star Andrew Scott (AKA Moriarty) will play Homer opposite David Dawson (Nicholas Nickleby) as Langley in the U.K. premiere of The Dazzle. Directed by Simon Evans and penned by Tony winner Richard Greenberg, the limited engagement will run December 10 through January 30, 2016. Opening night is scheduled for December 15 at new London venue Found111. The Dazzle first bowed off-Broadway in 2002 and is set in New York City at the beginning of the 20th Century. Two brothers sit in their home surrounded by 136 tons of hoarded junk. When a beautiful guest arrives, everybody's lives are thrown into sharp focus...
Gypsy of the Year Sets Dates
Broadway's best will take the stage to celebrate six weeks of intensive fundraising efforts at the 27th annual Gypsy of the Year competition on December 7 and December 8 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. A competitive variety show, the event honors the tireless work of ensemble singers and dancers, known as "gypsies." For two afternoons, more than 200 of New York's most talented gypsies and their special guests will perform original skits, songs and dances. Awards will be presented for the best presentation during the two performances and for the shows raising money during a six-week fundraising effort for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Cut Loose! Original Footloose Stars Reunite
Kick off your Sunday shoes for this one night only event on January 12, 2016! Original Footloose Broadway cast members Jeremy Kushnier, Jennifer Laura Thompson and Orfeh, along with some new faces, will perform numbers from the cult classic at Feinstein’s/54 Below. We can't wait to hold out for a hero with them!
Very Good Place to Start for U.K.'s Sound of Music Live!
How do you solve a problem like the U.K.’s upcoming telecast of The Sound Of Music Live!? According to Deadline, Kara Tointon (Eastenders) will play Maria, with Katherine Kelly (Mr. Selfridge) as Baroness Elsa Schraeder (we presume this sort of shade is requisite) and comedian Alexander Armstrong as Max Detweiler. They join the previously reported Julian Ovenden as Captain Georg von Trapp. Still no word yet on airdate, but it will be broadcast on ITV during the holiday season.
