Steve Martin, whose Bright Star will bow on Broadway this coming spring, has already scheduled his next project! Adult comedy Meteor Shower will make its world premiere as part of the San Diego Old Globe’s 2016 summer season. Other projects tapped for the lineup include the West Coast premiere of Paul Gordon’s Sense and Sensibility; Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick and Love’s Labor’s Lost, helmed by three-time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall.
Martin’s Meteor Shower will be directed by Gordon Edelstein, and is booked to play July 30, 2016 through September 4. Opening night is set for August 7 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre. Martin’s new comedy takes an offbeat and absurdist look at the comic anxiety lurking just beneath the surface of modern marriage.
New tuner Sense and Sensibility, which made its world premiere this past April with the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, will play July 6 through August 14. Opening night is scheduled for July 14, on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. The stage adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel has book, music, and lyrics by Gordon and will be directed by Barbara Gaines.
As part of the 2016 Summer Shakespeare Festival, Macbeth will run June 19 through July 24, with opening night on June 25 at the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Love’s Labor’s Lost, directed by Kathleen Marshall, will play August 14 through September 18, 2016, with opening night on August 20, at the same venue.
